So, all you lens experts out there! What can you tell me about this beautiful lens?

Listed as Hoya Minolta fit 135mm 2.8 Close Focus.

Seems that it is a Minolta fit, looks too wide for MD so I'm thinking AF? A mount?

Anyway, love to know what you think of it, as I have just won it on eBay for 99p :O

Says it is smooth functioning etc, but lets be honest, for 99p who can complain!

That does not look like an AF lens, it has none of the things I would expect to see on one.

I think it is more likely to be a Hoya made lens to fit the older MD mounts.

I have no idea if it would fit your Sony.

Well I have found a few tutorials on how to adapt the mount, and for 99p, I will give it a try!
 
Fair play and yep at 99p can't complain :)

You'll have to lets us know how successful the mount adaption works. :)

Will do, I've never done it before, but it apparently isn't too difficult and creates a much better result than an adapter with optics.

I think it's unlikely to be M42 as there are two aperture scales, no auto / manual diaphram switch and there are 2 black tangs on the chrome ring at the base of the lens that are probably some kind of metering connection
 
I wonder why it would have two aperture scales?

I have a Minolta 135mm f3.5 in MD mount but it doesn't close focus, in fact its minimum focus distance is about 4 foot.

This is what the mount looks like...

Well that's definitely the same mount, I have Googled it and there was a Vivitar close focus 135mm that focused to about 60cm, this one focuses to about 100cm. Which is good for a 135mm lens!

I wonder why though? :thinking:

It was quite common to have dual aperture rings....one that was preset before the shot and stopped down coincident with shutter release and the second was used during composition (DoF) and focus so that the viewfinder wasn't too dark.

Yes I have an M39 Russian Zenit lens that does that, but this does not, even though there are two sets of numbers, they are both on the same ring. Which seems pointless to me? :cuckoo:
