after some recommendations here i invested in a xprob 055 manfrotto tripod, and personally decided that the 324rc head was my preferred head...

how do you all carry them when your out n about???

i've looked into the minefield of straps with nothing overly appealing (unless im looking in the wrong places), and also into the padded and non padded bags etc.....

the enclosed bag would prob suit me more but theres umpteen sizes and no charts etc to determine which one i'd need etc...

what ones/one do you use??

I've not got a bag but I'd just take it to a camera shop and ask them
I sometimes attach the tripod to my bag
 
I use a bag from a vertical pull up banner, fits perfectly and has a handle but I'm not guilty of carrying it around too much.
 
For storage, I keep my carbon 190 with a 322 head in the padded version of this http://www.manfrotto.co.uk/tripod-bag-unpadded-80cm . I also have the unpadded version that my older aluminium 190 and 410 head live in. For carrying, I shove them into the tripod carrying bit of my LowePro MiniTrekker rucksack.
 
I brought the manfrotto 90cm padded bag for my 055 proxb and the 498rc2 ball head. Check out the overall length of the tripod and head before you buy a bag as I seem to remember the 80cm bag being too short for the 055 tripod and heads.

I use the bag mainly as storage in the house and car so i don't worry about the contents being damaged. I've never used the bag out and about as i have found it would be too cumbersome having that and a camera rucksack to carry. I usually carry the tripod by hand then attach the camera once I get to the location. I have tried attaching the 055 tripod to the tripod attachment on the front of my bag but found the weight altered the weight distribution too much.

If you do go for the padded bag please be aware of its size, it surprised me how large it was. I can get the 055 tripod with cheap amazon gimbal head attached,monopod and ball head, spare centre column, small double bean bag and a rolled up bag hide in it. Also it's not exactly inconspicuous when carried on your shoulder due to its size and shape (at least camera rucksacks look like bags).

I have thought about getting a strap as it would probably be more useful, when I'm out as I usually keep the camera and lens attached to the tripod all the time, rather than putting it back in the bag. I mainly do wildlife so this approach works well for me, if I do landscapes then the camera goes back in after leaving each location.

I won't be without the bag now as its great for what I use it for, I only have to pick up 2 bags when I go out and I have everything I need with me. Also the wife is happier that all my camera equipment is not spread out around the house.
