Hi all.

My wife really wants a cam-corder so she can keep a diary of my daughter growing up.

so can anyone tell me what is good out there??? there are just soooo many to choose from.

She wants one that is fairly good quality but also not too much money. something like £200-300 maybe less.

also maybe a SD card storage AND she isnt too sure about the design. in a way she likes the flip but she doesnt want it as they might be abit too cheap and basic. maybe more of a classic design.

Any ideas will be great :)

Sony Handycams tend to be pretty good... Although most of them aren't high definition, they usually have good sound quality, zoom, easy user interface, good build quality and an excellent Zeiss lens. This is a good example.

Hope that helps!

I've got a Panasonic TM10. This is a HD camcorder, it has 8GB internal flash memory and a card slot to add more mem. It is really small and will fit in the palm of your hand easily.
As with all small HD camcorders it is not great at low light conditions but really good for the money in good light. I paid £318.00 for this one from Amazon and have been pleased with the results so far. It is easy to use and feels nice in your hand. It is small enough that I have been able to get it in to my Fastpack 200 with my other camera gear.

The other version of this camera is the SD10 which has no internal memory. Check the internet for prices first as places like Currys can be a rip off as mine was at least £100.00 more in the store. If you spend more you get a better camera. There is also the option of the Flip cameras but they are fairly basic. Stick to the main brands such as Panasonic, Sony and Canon as they have been making camcorders for years and the support is usually good.

Hope that helps

Thanks for the reply guys. Yeah the Sony one sounds good but shame it isnt a HD one. I dont really like the look of the flip. looks too basic and not well made.
I have got a Panasonic camcorder here but it's playing up by destorying/chewing up the DV tapes. this is a small issue which puts me off abit BUT I am getting a HD or SD storage which shouldnt be a problem!!

I will check out the prices for the ones mentioned :)
Thanks

can you guys recommend me a good place to buy from? I dont want to go to high street shops and get ripped off.

I am looking at amazon like Duncan suggested

I've had no problems with Amazon, also try Dixons online as they seem to have some great deals.

I've always had Panasonic camcorders and I've always found them to be good quality.
I'm sure whichever you choose you will be happy, there are lots out there it just comes down to personal taste. I checked mine out in Stuff magazine and they rate it in their top 10 camcorders.
Also check out the gadget show website as they rated a Sanyo HD camcorder as great for value I think it was only £137.00 but had no inbuilt mem.
Good luck
Duncan

I've a small Sony (Dv tape) & like it. Similarly it's used for familly things. I saw a 2nd hand Sony Tg3 & was contemplating going HD. Then I was flicking on Freeview & saw a Panasonic on QVC sounded remarkably similar spec (if not better) for < £80.

OK got another Q, thought I would ask here instead of starting a new thread.

I finally got myself a canon legria HD camcorder :)

My question is, where is the best place to buy SDHC card from? I remember that alot of people on here recommend warehouse express.
But when I checked there..................I got totally confused.

I dont know much about SD cards. all it says in the manule is I need a SDHC card and when I checked the settings, I noticed the max is 17mb/s

I see some places has class 4 written on them, I have no idea what that means but some class 4 is 20mb/s some is 33mb/s and 1 is 4mb/s ????????!!?!?!?!

I dont understand how come some cards are like £80 and some are £50
and when I checked ebay, they are like £20-30 delivered.

Can someone tell me which exact card I need? and link/ best price is poss :)
