I don’t know if anyone can offer any advice on this?

A friend of mine has 2 hours of video on his camcorder, & has asked me the best way to get it onto disc?

I was thinking about connecting it directly to my DVD recorder, (set box type)
& then burning to DVD so he can at least get it onto his computer.

Or would it be easier to load it straight on the computer via the USB connection?
(I thought this might be a timely affair?)

My camcorder connects via USB. It saves files to its internal hard drive and they transfer just like any other files. Firewire may still be the most common way for digital tape type camcorders.

The answer varies according to what type of camcorder it is.

I would think the recording to DVD recorder option would work quite well for a camcorder that only outputs video signals and needs a video capture of some type to convert to digital storage.
 
USB is generally only available to those with HDD camcorders....if it is DV then it will not be possible unless he has firewire, or you go down the route of recording through you box, which would be the easiest! :)
 
Been there. Didn't bother with the T shirt.

Unless you have a good capture card or external capture device, a good cpu and fast hard drive, you will be disappointed. You will have countless dropped frames, and maybe poor sound synchronisation. Factor in time and you'll be even more disappointed. I don't bother with a pc now. Straight to hard drive on a Panasonic HDD/DVD player. Editing out all the crap is a doddle, then burn to dvd. It's the way to go for simplicity, but if you want fancy editing stuff, scene transitions, soundtracks etc then it's a PC, time, money, learning, grief, frustration, regret, more money........
