I have just bought a used 40d, how can you check the official number of shots the body has actually taken?

How many shots is considered a lot?

I just sold my 450D with 8,000 shots on it. This added up incredibly quickly.

I think I came fairly close to that number just over the BTCC weekend at Knockhill

Yeah, exactly. When panning I fire constantly and quite easily take 1,000+ pictures in an outing, so what exactly is consider a lot?

Has anyone got any idea of a record for a Canon SLR? All these old 20D's and so on, if used constantly must be on hundreds of thousands, surely?
