Camera Bags...what do you use to carry all your kit?

Hi all,

just curious what everyone uses. I have tried all sorts but never seem to settle on one bag.

I currently have a lowepro protactic that I use when out for a wander, a magnum 400 that I use to carry a lot of kit to on site shoots and a PELI1510 if im going further a field.

I want a new bag that can hold a lot of kit, two bodies, 5-7 lenses, 3-4 flashguns + all the usual bits n bobs..I find lowepro exagerate the carrying capacity of all of their bags! unless you take all your lenses with no hoods that is :)
 
Big fan of Think Tank. I have two waist belts, a wheelie international bag and a small backpack for carry on... They do what they say and have a photo card inside, real size, to show it. Snapperstuff distribute here and no, I don't work for them!
 
What about Tarmac expedition? I've got a 7x which holds all kit and I've a billingham 335 which I decant to if I'm going out with grads only and I've got a Tamrac 6x for sale .......
 
I have a number of bags but my primary bag is the Manfrotto Professional Backpack 30 - I've found it's the best bet for me when I'm out and about and want to carry all my gear comfortably. The D810 and grip fits nicely and usually have the 16-35mm, 24-120mm and 50mm in there. Also room for the Lee filter holder and a few filters plus small accessories.

I've also had the Lowepro Toploader Pro 75 AW for many years - useful when I want to carry the camera and a single lens. It can be a bit snug but is a quality bag. Fits the D810 with grip and the 24-120mm a treat and if you take out the extra padding will accommodate the camera and a 70-200mm f2.8 (snuggly!)

Finally have a Billingham 335 in Sage fibrenyte - love the look of the bag and takes the camera well but if I'm honest I haven't used it that much...

Think I have 'bag acquisition syndrome'....:rolleyes:

the expedition is end of life now and replaced with the anvil according to the website :)
 
It's a great bag! I've had my 7x about 4-5 years and it's still as good as new!

Second this - my son has a 5x fro walkabout and a 7x when filming that takes all his shoulder rig and associated stuff.

I have a Lowepro comuptrekker and a smaller lowepro backpack (trekker replacement as the zip broke after years of abuse).
 
I use a LowePro Micro Trekker 200.

it's practically full to the brim, Sometimes I take my film body out and have to leave either the 70-200 or my two manual lenses at home to accommodate..

I'm not going to buy a bigger bag though.. I'd end up spending more on kit to fill it..!
 
Billingham hadley large and a Kata R103 backpack. Both very well made and comfortable to carry around all day.

My other 12 bags lol are in the cupboard and not used much .

I'm also looking to buy an old Canvas bag for my film gear, and an Expedition 6x for doing weddings.

How's about that for BAS @DavidUK?

Makes me feel much better about my stash of bags! I shall quote this to 'her indoors' the next time she brings up my gear acquisition syndrome! :sneaky:
That said I've been keeping my eye on the new Nikon 24-70 f2.8e - I sometimes regret buying the 24-120 f4 as it was cheaper and this new lens looks a good replacement! (it never ends does it)

Certainly doesn't! Like most on here, bags are such a personal thing, and one certainly doesn't do it all. I have a Lowepro Stealth 400 which I use to keep most things in; a lowepro classified AW 160 which is my go-to for holiday with one body and two lenses (can get iPad in that too); a lowepro trekker rucksack which has been in the loft for far too long; a thinktank 2.0 holster for one lens and body combo; and a Billingham 207 for when I want to look like a pro, ha! I wouldn't ever buy a bag without viewing these days, I find luggage to be quite personal and difficult to buy without trying first.

I took my D810 overseas for the first time in June and I was very nervous about doing so! I cradled the thing like a baby - I took the LowePro Toploader 75 AW with the Nikon 24-120 as carry on - albeit itself stashed inside a Samsonite cabin size carry on suitcase to keep the number of carry-on bags down. My 50mm ended up in my fiances hand bag... she complained at first but we got there in the end :)

I originally got the Manfrotto Pro 30 as it was carry on size but figured the weight would bust through the airlines limit for carry on so decided on the above. I'm going to Venice later in the year so the above tried and tested method will likely be employed again! (though we're flying British Airways rather than Thompson so likely the carry on allowance is more generous).

I quite agree. I still haven't found a bag that I really LOVE! the expedition x9 is just too big and bulky for most things. The two shoulder bags do my head in when I'm walking, and I find I like to have a separation for each of my lenses/bits, so a messenger bag doesn't;t quite work. Again, the photosport is great for carrying a lens whilst hiking, but is not really good for going out purposefully for photography. Drives me insane. I spend more time deciding which bag to take on an outing than I do on picking lenses!

If you want to really make yourself feel good, you should know that I have 14 different cameras that I use!
 
If I take all my kit and bags on holiday or away for weekend my 3 year old is scared stiff I'm moving out!

That's a lot of gear! :D
If the trip is fairly local I pack the Manfrotto Pro 30 and my 055CXPRO3 in a 90cm bag - I'll never moan again given the gear you're hauling!
 
my walkabout is the lowepro protactic 450 and I do love it, I take my 1dx with 70-200 F2.8 Lii, and my gripped 5dmkiii with 16-35 F2.8 fitted, a carbon benro tripod, remote cable, pack with lee filter adaper, 6x grads and the big and little stopper..couple of cloths etc.

the magnum 400 claims it can take 2 bodies with lenses attached and an additional 7 lenses...yeah, tiny lenses with no hoods maybe! :)

I'm thinking of getting the next size up in peli case for events..the 1510 is wedged full now.
 
think tank urban disguise 40 v2 .... stopped my bag addiction as soon as i got it!
comes with rain cover ...card wallet loads of extra dividers nuff said ;-)

Which proves my point about how personal a bag is. I had one of these for a month and hated it.
 
Think tank street walker hard drive, what a name, got a couple of Lowepros for those lighter trips, a 400aw and 200.
 
ALL of it? A Transit with a Luton body!!!

More seriously, the main DSLR kit lives in a LowePro MiniTrekker (but gets adjusted according to expected needs on an outing) while the holiday Fuji kit (with the 1AW Nikon) goes in a LowePro FastPack 350 which leaves some space for other stuff in the top compartment. Got a couple of other bags as well which suit other occasions/uses better than the rucksack types.
 
Think tank retrospective is my main bag. I love it because it doesn't look like a Camera bag. I hate huge bags. It carries a body with 70-200 and a couple of spare lenses, should I need to carry them.

Tamrac 6x If I do a wedding.

Just bought a think tank limo to transport body with large lens. Will probably only get used in the car as I tend to carry body and lens on a strap instead of in a bag when I'm actually using it. I'm more of a shoot as I go person and its hard to do that if the camera is on my back.
 
All of it? Not really a good idea, I have different bags for different activities (not as many as the above though).

I did once buy a bag that held a massive amount of kit and a laptop, I thought it was a brilliant idea, till I filled it up and tried to carry it. :eek:
 
"The Big Brown Cupboard"! With some overflow into the bags mentioned above and the dining table... Far too many cameras to justify having really but they do all have their uses!
 
True but it's justifying them that's hard!

Same here I use a Tamrac Expedition 7X and its great, very comfortable to wear and holds loads of gear :-)

Then I'd suggest a suitable bag for carrying and something else for the iverspill, maybe one of the Peli case lookalikes from Maplins or Clas Ohlsen

I used to pack everything away in a bag until I realised I had it all perfectly packed to help a burglar take it all away with very little effort. Now I keep all lenses/camera in a cupboard on their own downstairs and my empty camera bag in a wardrobe upstairs. At least they would now have to pack it in a bag (if they can find one or bring one with them) rather than just pick up my camera bag :)
 
I've gone through quite a few bags trying to find ones that suit every situation. At worse I had five, now down to two with one soon to be sold. I've been selling all of them as I've moved to just one f stop backpack as a one size fits all solution. I very rarely go out with a camera and small lens as it's mainly wildlife I photograph. So far only one XL pro icu but I may get a smaller one to carry less gear and allow a quick changeover.
 
Lowepro Classified AW 200 for all my frequently used kit - 2.8 trio, fisheye, nifty fifty, 2 flashes, 2 bodies (6D and 1D3), some triggers/spare batteries usual bits and bobs. It really is at max capacity, i have the zip expanded and it just about holds all the above :p when I dont need all that I use a mantona rhodolit (got it from amazon) as a walk about, holds body, a few lenses/flashes with quick access

get the Vertex 300 then :)

I have 2 x 100, (one for the wife), 1 x 200 & 1 x 300... They all carry different amounts of kit and get progressively heavier (actually really heavy !!!! )
