Camera Batteries

I've noticed my original plus the two 3rd party batteries i had when camera was new [18+ months] are not lasting too long these days.

I have had two lots of 3rd party replacements through ebay where the first lot were good and the second lot not so. So, can someone put up a recommendation please. Is 18 months about the norm for a once a week shooter?

I think it's pure luck - the genuine ones seem to have the edge with me (nikon) but not sure it's enough to justify the price premium.

Thw worst I have found have been the 3rd party ones which look identical to the originals - nikon branding and boxes etc.

Me personally would leave 3rd party batteries alone & just go for the original Nikon/Canon batteries - mainly for piece of mind.

Unkle Ken reckons that you should charge the batteries before every shoot.. I do have some salt going if you need a pinch

I use energizer batteries. Not the cheapest but still way cheaper than OEM ones. Reliable manufacturer and usually come with a warranty of up to 3 years

I got some Hama replacements from Wilkinsons through ebay, £5 each and seem to be lasting as well as the Canon OEM model.

With the 40D the only Battery I have had fail was a Canon one - all my third party ones are still going well. I have not tried a 3rd party with the 7d yet.

7 day shop and Play are worth a look for 3rd party batteries as well

Depending on what camera it's going in, I think Kerso (Ian) does some 3rd party batteries.

Thanks chaps, i think i may have a problem with my charger. Seems to appear charged [indicator full] to find it isn't?? Is there a way of testing batteries??

You can test the batteries, but it requires special equipment.

Another of my hobbies was RC aircraft. Obviously a battery failure would have more serious consequences, so I have things like this.

Batteries do have a finite life and number of charge cycles.

If you want genuine Canon ones at half price, try Jessops (probably the only time I will ever recommend them).

Try amazon for a replacement duracell battery. £11 and good so far... If duracell can't make batteries who can? (energizer, canon, nikon, etc etc )
