Camera battery failure.

Has anyone ever had a battery just stop working? I can't charge it, it's out of charge so doesn't work in the camera either.

It's an Energizer one that i bought as a second battery at the same store and at the same time i bought the camera. The original Nikon battery is still working fine. The show wasn't selling branded Nikon batteries at the time.

I just wondered if this was a common occurrence or just a faulty product. It's only 2 years old, i wouldn't expect it to fail that quick!
 
NMh batteries can fail, they "grow" filaments across the electrodes, a common way is to "battery blast" them :eek:.
Take a car battery charger, or car battery even, and connect across the battery + to + for a fraction of a second. If you use a battery put a headlamp bulb in series to limit the current.

This burns off the filament allowing it to charge again. BUT.. this usually means the battery is on its way out. I have a couple of 1.2V NMh that need a "tweek" every few weeks, if they are left to stand.

I use a 12V charger for a 1 million candle power torch to blast as they are current limited by design.

This is a Li-ion battery, not a NiMH... would your advice be the same?
 
No li-ion batteries have protection circuitry. If you try it on them you will probably kill the battery or even worse if it's not the li-mn variety it could catch fire.
 
Thanks, i did wonder! Not that i have a car battery to even try it out with lol.

Still bemuses me that a battery can work one day, then not the next. It wasn't even as if it discharged quicker. I was getting over a full 8gb card of images out of it over a day, including using flash for some... so it was performing pretty well as good as it did when i first got it. Then... nothing!
