Camera Body Hire?

Does anyone know of a good/reliable company to hire a Nikon Camera Body? I'm thinking either D50, D70 or D90.

Reason being, I am going on Safari in Sept and am wanting to take a second body to have a smaller zoom with me so I don't miss any 'nearer' shots should there be some that arise.

Also, at the moment I am feeling limited by my D40x's 3 AF points.

We are just looking at the moment if it's more cost effective for me to BUY a second hand body or to rent for the time we're away [9days] does anyone have any companies they can recommend?

You can pick up a d70 for peanuts on fleabay or similar, but remeber it takes CF rather than SD so even if you did rent one you would have to grab some new cards, d50s are pretty cheap but id probbably rather get a second hand d60 for a similar price and better performance all be it with 3 AF points as well (minus the motor in body but since you have a d40 i doubt thats going to be an issue)
 
D60 has no motor either. I have been thinking of a D70, am gonna be reading up specs etc. tonight. I can prob not go ANYmore than £200 so I know it does rule out a D90.
I really do want/need more than 3 AF points though that is the only option I am thinking of buying rather than renting anyway.

Cos original thought was to borrow my stepsister's D40, but she dropped hers and it's broke now, which is why I need this school of thought.

SORRY, I just re-read what you said and realised you didn't say that D60 had a motor, my bad :)
 
The d70 wont actually perform anywhere near as well as your d40, iso performance is much worse on the 70, it does have the advantage of being alot better built and i prefer the body but thats about it.

I was considering selling my 60 gear and grabbing a 70 as a second body, i suppose if your shooting in good light the iso performance wont be a problem and the fact its built like a tank is always handy for safari, plus the fact you could grab lenses without built in motors which do tend to be slightly cheaper.

Dont forget to factor in the card cost!
 
Has photography really become so reliant on technology that the number of focusing points is relevent? I'm having a prblem seeing that it is ... I switch off the auto selection of focussing points and just use the center one. Put the focusing point over the subject, half press the shutter, compose the shot and take the picture.

Any how, to answer the question, I've been dealing with Fixation recently (as reccommended by another member) and they have been outstanding in the level of service they have afforded me. The also do hire, why not give them a try?

Buy a second hand D50 or D70 definately. Either of these will give you the AF motor and has more AF points (I think five for both?).

I bought a D50 as a back up for my D40x on a trip to egypt and didn't regret it at all. As you say its worth it to not have to muck around changing lenses in sandy climbs.

In fact, if I'm honest - in many ways I ended up preferring the D50 to my 40x. It makes a much nicer noise....
 
To be fair even on my 200 which has god knows how many i still stick it on centre and just recompose, i find it faster than fiddling around with focus points in the dark
