Morning all - I'm new to DSLR photography, and also to these forums, and would appreciate your advice. I recently bought a Nikon D5000 with the two standard lenses (18-55 and 55-200mm VR, annoyingly just before Jessops dropped the price) and have been having great fun with it.

However I'd be interested to know how you generally carry your cameras around. To put my question into context this would be when we go out as a family and I don't want to be carrying a separate camera bag. But equally I don't want the camera and spare lens rattling around in the bag that we do take.

Is there a solution? Is there such a thing as a snug camera case that will hold the camera and either of the lenses, and possibly keep the other lens safe as well?

There's loads of options available, what kind of bag do you prefer? sling type, rucksack, or messenger? Also what price range are you looking at?
 
Thanks Terryt. What I'm looking for isn't so much a bag, as a case that can go inside a bag. It would stop the camera and lens banging up against other things that are already in the bag. Price - don't know really - up to £50?
 
I've just got one of these. Not sure it's exactly what you are after but offers a bag for the camera and extra storage as well.
 
try one of the crumpler stores and see if you can get the bag inserts they sell seperatley, they will go into any bag and they keep your gear safe.

I have a D5000 and have the standard Nikon soft case for it that is recommended for the 18-55. However, I also have a Nikon 18-200mm and this 'just' fits inside the case. I prefer going out with the camera and just one lens and regularly use this case. My bag stays in the spare room holding the rest of the kit and rarely leaves the house. I don't know the dimensions of the 55-220, but if smaller than a 18-200 this might be the way to go.
