Camera club?

Does anyone belong to a camera club/photographic club? I'm looking to expand my skills, learn new stuff, meet some like-minded people, but I'm nervous and quite shy (which is why I do landscape/nature - I don't meet many people there!!).

My main worry is that they will be full of aloof photographers who will turn their noses up at my amateur setup... I guess it's irrational. I'd like to know of people's experiences to encourage myself (and possibly others) to have the balls to join....:help:

Do a forum search for club and you should get lots of info, it's been discussed a few times recently

If you are nervous about meeting other togs at a camera club have you considered finding yourself a "tog buddy" in your area first and take it from there.
See if there is anyone in your area and simply pm them.

Edit, nothing wrong with your kit, they will be probably all be amateurs in the club anyway, I know our local club even has members with P&S cameras.

There is a thread in the meeting place section of the forum that lists camera clubs. Have a search through there.

On the shyness front dont worry, everyone had to go through the same thing at one time or another, i know i did when i joined my local one. You turn up, dont know anyone and wonder if you will fit in or be the worst one there. In actual fact what you will find is there will be people of mixed ability and you will fit right in.

Go for it!

Classic case of kit snobbery ,I was very conscientious when i first started photography ,i wouldn't take photos in places where there were people ,believe me you will get over that ,and you'll be surprised how quickly also .I'm also toying with the camera club idea ,would be an excellent way to learn different types of photography ,tips and tricks, and of course ,the making of new friends .It doesn't matter what kit you have ,it's how you use it that matters .Just my humble opinion
