Camera fir 5 year old?

Looking to buy a camera for my 5 year old and need some advice. . Bought her a kiddy zoom last year I think it was but her little sister as prity much confiscated it and I think she needs something abit better.

Probably a point and shoot but needs to be sturdy. Probably shock/drop proof and not cost a fortune. Any ideas
 
Just ordered my little girl the Nikon S31 for Xmas. Should be bombproof all being well and is still capable of some proper images when she is out with me shooting at zoos and suchlike.
 
Thanks. We have decided to let her play with my wifes nex just now and see how she gets on. If she continues to like and use the camera we will buy her a small dslr for her 6th birthday.. im thinking something like the 100d nice and small
 
Man, when I was that age I had a Teenage Mutant Hero Turtle camera. :D I found one at a boot sale a while back as well, it used to put a turtle in the corner of every picture you take.

Good to see you starting them young. The 100D is a fine camera, I have one myself, but I wouldn't give it to such a young child personally. What about one of those underwater type cheap cameras with the shock housing?
 
We just brough our nearly 3 year old a fuji xp60 (I wanted him to have the xp200 wife said no)
He can use (with help) our 7d and 5d mkii

Ive never got why people buy the kiddi cameras (not a dig at you )
They seem pointless and just chunky poor quality cameras :-)
 
PS the kiddizoom cameras are awful. My daughter has one and it's rubbish, and eats batteries.
 
My boy is nearly 6 used to have my old point n shoot until it broke ( not his fault lol)... now i use film more he uses my 550d with strict instructions of how to be careful, always has the strap etc, my daughter uses it too as she wanted one for xmas but i've given her free use... It is nice to see so many young ones take an interest

+1 did exactly the same for my 5 year old son. It's light-weight and set on auto, so perfect for him. He's becoming quite the pro.....
 
Given that most of the time my son uses his camera when I'm around, he is supervised so I doubt too much harm would come to the 350. Even if it did, you can pick up one with a kit lens for around £150. Now that's value for money
