Camera for a 7 year old, any recommendations?

Hi all after setting up my 10 year old granddaughter with a panny gf1, which she loves, I need a camera for my 7 year old, any advice please, I was thinking another gf1 maybe or even a panny lx3 or lx5, not sure if they are robust enough though lol.
 
No one ever pondered which camera to buy for a youngster?
 
My 6yo did have the old Sony compact but gave him my d300. Couldn't face selling it for £200 and I still get to use it for stuff!
 
My daughter has the gf3 with either the kit lens or sigma 30mm /f2.8. she had problems holding the camera, using the zoom and taking the picture all at the same time at first with having such little hands but soon worked it out. We also have the original G1 and although relatively bigger it is surprisingly robust, it lacks the touch screen of the gf3 but you would save on "but she has a better one than me even though I'm bigger" complaints.
 
Having had a 400D I think it may be a bit too big, a GF3 sounds good though
 
Cheers for the info twist, her birthday isn't until May, i'll keep my eye on the classifieds see if anything suitable turns up.

I had the dilemma when my lad was 6(nearly 7) as he wanted wildlife shots but I was not going to overspend so I picked up(this was 5 years ago) a Panasonic Lumix FZ20 bridge camera for £50 as the model had f.2.8 through all the focal range(12x).. but I was worried it still might not be usable for a 6-7 yo... I was wrong.

A bit of everything I imagine, so maybe a bridge camera then
 
I started both of my girls off with Fuji compacts as the internal zoom system makes them quite forgiving to the odd bump or being out in a case while still on... They both enjoyed these and still use them (now 8 and 10 and have been using them for about four years). Last year my wife got a Canon Sx50 bridge camera and both the girls keep borrowing it as they love the increased range and the moveable screen. In order to keep my wife shooting I have picked up two more bridge camera for my daughters to borrow when we go out and about.

On occasions my 10 year old will use my EOS M but I try to keep hold of that for myself. Personally I think that bridge cameras work well for them as they can cover a huge range of subjects and styles in an easy to handle package.
 
In the classifieds there's a GX1 for £109 and an EPL3 for <£100.
A 14-42 kit lens will set you back c. £50 and the 40-150 c £70. The 17/2.8 pancake and Sigma 30/60 primes are often seen cheap too.

I think they should defo be up for consideration,

100% agree; they are a great option to start a youngling on and no need to spend huge on the latest greatest offering
 
Ok i'm definitely thinking a bridge camera now, but there are none in the classifieds when i want one lol

I've got one of those mate it's a really nice camera, problem is if i get her one, i will then need a lens and it will push the price to high.
