Camera hire - any recommendations?

Hi all
I'm looking to hire either a Nikon D3s or in a pinch a D7000 (or maybe D90/D300s) for a short term (between 3 days to 1 week).


Does anyone have any recommendations for any companies that hire these out? :thumbs:

Why go elsewhere when there is someone in the forums :shrug:

Oooops my mistake "LensesForHire - easy, flexible and affordable - and NOT JUST LENSES!!!" only mentioned it because of the title in StewartR's thread - should've read down a bit more - as its lighting that they've dipped their toes in... :$

Saying that thou - You could ask him as he may be able to help you with some recommendations or put you in contact with someone who may do - tis worth a try if anything....
 
I would without a moment's hesitation recommend HIRE A CAMERA. Guy, Jaine and the crew there are as committed to customer service as we are.
 
I may have got this wrong, but it seems like the prices for renting cameras is quite expensive compared to renting lenses - if you compare the costs for renting something with a similar purchase price. Anyone know why this is?

I have an idea. (Why do you think we don't hire out cameras yet?)

The main issue has to be obsolescence. Bodies are replaced far more quickly than lenses in the product cycle. I have lenses which I bought 3 years ago and they are still in demand for hiring. But if I'd bought Canon's pro-sumer body 3 years ago it would be the 40D, and who'd want to hire that now? It's 2 or 3 generations out of date. I have one and it's fine for me, but everybody would want to hire the 60D or 7D instead.

Another related issue is depreciation. Bodies depreciate faster than lenses, probably because of the obsolescence factor.

So if you buy bodies to hire out instead of lenses, you have a shorter timespan within which they will be in demand, and you have to recoup more money to allow for the faster depreciation. Result: hiring costs more.
 
I can't imagine why anyone would be considering such a variation of cameras to hire - different beasts for different jobs in my opinion.

If you need a full frame pro spec body, the D90 ain't in the same league, yet if a D90 will do the job, why pay huge hire fees to rent a D3S?

You also need to consider the lenses - DX lenses are no good on the D3S, and coverage is different on the crop bodies.
