Camera insurance: outside UK

Hi,

I have my gear insured with Photoguard.
I just called them to ask if I am insured if I will take my precious toys outside UK for 8 days.

No, I'm not.

Photoguard can change my policy to "UK + 30 days in EU" and the monthly payment would be increased from £14 to £23 per month (policy summary: £6210).

Here is my question:

Is there any way I can save some money in this situation?
Is there any company than can offer international top-up insurance (or whatever you call it) that I can buy just for this trip?

I am not planning leaving UK again this year so I would be paying higher fee for the rest of the year for, well, nothing.

Please help!

Bit late for you and hence not entirely helpful, (may help others), ... from the Aaduki Policy:-

Cover applies in the United Kingdom and worldwide for up to 60 days in any one period of insurance. Any visit abroad of an abnormal nature which involves a significant increase in the risk of loss or damage must be notified to us prior to departure. We may impose special terms or decline to provide cover, according to the information provided.
Requests to extend the 60 day period will be considered, subject to an additional premium.
You must be resident in the United Kingdom and the photographic equipment must normally be kept in the United Kingdom.

No gramps, it is helpful.
Good reason for switching to Aaduki - but I will think about it next year when my policy will expiry. Thanks

Any other ideas?

Try normal house content insurance, some add it for certain specified items to be outside of UK up to 30 days

Can I insure home content for 8 days? :>

I know I know, everyone should have home content insurance... (back to Googling and Meerkating :) )

Why don't you give Aaduki a call and see if they can help you?

£23 per month for £6k of gear is nothing...I pay around £16 for around £3k but with cover for EU and public liability .... and Im with photoguard...
other than that I have no ideas for you what to do :)
maybe some travel insurance for your trip will cover it ?

Aaduki £132 pa (£11 pm) for £5K gear, inc £1M public liabilty.

This thread has reminded me to do something about insurance for next years holiday in America.
Off to check to home contents policy.

would that be for new clients as well ? or is it with some discounts you have already ?

Never been with them before and took out the policy in August 2010.
Even told them they were in error with their reference to the alarm system installer requirement and they accepted and confirmed I was right, ammending the policy accordingly.

What's the car cover on that? One of the things I wanted but which very few insurers offered was cover for the total value of my kit if left in an unattended vehicle, without any bizarre exception clauses.

Be interested to know what that Aaduki policy includes as the price seems very good.

Unoccupied Vehicle Extension
Contrary to exclusion 1 above, the policy shall include theft from an unoccupied motor vehicle under the following circumstances:
1. Up to £5,000 subject to:
(a) all doors being shut and locked, with all other openings being firmly closed
(b) equipment being kept in a locked boot or other storage area obscured from view by a parcel shelf
(c) cover applying only to equipment within a vehicle between 06.00 and 21.00 hours and provided that such equipment was loaded into the same vehicle on the same day and between the same hours
(d) there being evidence that the vehicle has been forcibly broken into or the vehicle has been stolen
(e) no cover applying in respect of convertible, soft top or open vehicles.
2. Up to £10,000 subject to 1(a) to (e) above and the vehicle being additionally secured by means of a factory fitted or professionally installed alarm system that is in full
working order and has been set to operate.

Thanks - so basically anything left overnight (between 9pm and 6am) isn't covered.

Correct ... and I'm guessing that few people would want to leave serious kit in the car overnight, I know I wouldn't.

Oh I grant that few people would need such cover but I occasionally do which is why I went with Photoguard as they do cover this, although they charge a bit more.
