Hi guys,

Where can i get insurance for my camera? How much am i looking to pay?

Any help appreciated.

Matt

I hate in when someone says "do a search" but honestly if you search the forum you will find a number of threads that give suggestions and experiences, some mentioning how much they paid ... these vary from "add it to your home insurance" to experiences with Aaduki, E&L, Photoguard and several others and of course prices will vary with kit and cover. Hope that helps :)

Also check if your camera is already covered on your house insurance.

Dave

I am with Photoguard . If insuring your camera gear they may want the serial numbers of what you want covered.

Photoguard. If you type in the sum you want to insure (ie £2000), it will give you your monthly payment using their online calculator.

D&G will also cover for up to 3years ranging from 100-150 depending on the value of the camera.

Yep, Photoguard for me as well...http://www.jltonline.co.uk/photo.asp.....yes they do require serial number (If it has one) of your kit but if you are honest that's not a problem....they also have the Public Indemnity as well. I also added my laptop and accesories on to the policy.

For me these were the best I found after looking at the small print of many others (and DO read that small print!!!)

Regards,

Neil.

I'm with photoguard.
Not sure what their claims centre are like as I've not made one

Avoid E&L insurance

+1 for Photoguard, I've recently insured all my gear with them. I got £8000 cover, travelling, new for old all with only a £250 voluntary excess for less than £250 for the year. Obviously, it depends on what value your gear is and what cover specifics you require. As others have said, they need your serial numbers for major items but you can lump together all the items that dont have a serial and put a total value on it too.

Mj why do you suggest avoiding e&l? Just interested because I have a policy with them that's up for renewal soon.

Thanks

I am also with E&L and am unaware of issues that indicate that I shouldn't be - I used to be with Aaduki and interestingly actual policy issues that I raised were answered from someone in E&L so I'm not sure that there is any difference between the two. That fact, together with the fact that E&L were cheaper and had a better spec led me to move directly to them when it came to renewal time.

as always with these threads, take your recommendation from people that have claimed, not just people that are insured.
good customer service and website is meaningless if they wriggle their way out of paying you when the worst happens... *cough* photoguard *cough*

What happened with photoguard? Ive been looking at insurance as well just incase something goes wrong, and Ive been leaning towards photoguard.

Just to add a recommendation to investigate your home insurance. I spoke to them and they ended up being cheaper than the specialist photography insurance I had been looking at. They required me to specifically list all items above a certain value (can't remember exactly how much) and were happy to insure out of the home and abroad.

I had a lot of my photography stuff stolen in Barcelona along with cash, cards, passports etc. As well as being convenient only needing to claim for everything from one place they paid out the full value of my claim very quickly and without any quibbles. I had to send a copy of the (Spanish) police report, together with all the receipts I had kept (I didn't have all the receipts for the lower value items).

Obviously they don't offer things like public liability insurance, so it probably isn't suitable for professionals, but for rest of us I'd suggest its worth getting a quote. Just remember to make sure you're clear what cover you want and provide them with all the details they need.
