Camera insurance.

Basically I want to insure my 550D and Olympus M4/3 cameras for any problems and accidental damage, with having two kids and two dogs I feel like I'd be a lot safe with accidental cover. I normally use Domestic and General for my household items but they will not insure the cameras for accidental damage. Are there any companies that will offer this without draining my wallet? cheers.
 
I use PhotoGuard for my insurance. I pay about 35 pounds a month for European cover for an EOS 5DII, about 3k worth of lenses, several filters and tripods etc, which I dont think is too bad. I've only had to make one claim so far (my 24-70L lens fell off my camera as I picked it up, about £1k of damage) and they replaced it as soon as Canon said it was beyond repair.
 
This topic has come up a few times before with various recommends. I use infocusinsurance.
 
I'm with Photoguard and have around £10K cover for around £35 a month. The wife is also insured with them and has around £5K for around £22 a month and we both have in-vehicle cover, away from vehicle cover and hire cover with only a £50 excess. I made a claim last year after my 7D fell off the lens as I was putting the strap on the lens mount, after supplying the info they needed my claim was confirmed and they paid the repairers directly to minimise my wait time. There are other companies available, Aaduki were cheaper but didn't have the same amount of cover as Photoguard, and also there is E&L (IIRC) but there excess is around 8% which for me in a total loss situation would be around £800 as opposed to the £50 with Photoguard.
 
Just re-insured with, 'County Insurance Services', £144 per year for up to £7000 worth of kit, itemised and up to £600 of miscellaneous, 01685 290928, give them a ring and chat, I think it is well worth the £12 per month,

Photogard charge more then even insuring a car so give them a miss

Unless you're my age, then Photoguard are about half your car insurace :eek:

Also, your camera gear could be worth much more than a car, and is much easier to get damaged or stolen. In which case it provides better value than your car insurance!

I use Photogard and only pay around £15 for £6000 worth of gear but not professional use and no in car cover. but who would leave expensive camera kit in there car?

Interesting comments here. I'm looking for cover now. I'm a serious enthusiast, and when everything was totalled up I'm just short of 30k. PhotoGuard quoted me £68 per month (£816 a year)!, and said that as my kit totals over £25k I can only have 'Professional' cover. I have also been quoted £1237 for a year by another company who shall remain nameless. I got the impression it was priced that way so I wouldn't buy it. They're not wrong.

I'm new to this forum so if anybody can point me in the right direction I'd be grateful. PhotoGuard are near the top of my list but hell! As was said above that's twice my car insurance.
 
Forgot I posted this topic lol, cheers for the replies. I'll look into some of them. My kit is only worth about 1-2k so the premium shouldn't be that bad.

Photoguard for me as well. Although I've never had to make a claim I think their charges are reasonable.
After all, considering what some of us spend on gear, and what's covered, you would expect he premiums to reflect this.
Car insurance has been mentioned, and I wouldn't expect an expect an expensive car to cost rock bottom to insure.

Have a look at changing your house insurance too! My contents insurance covers me for "personal possessions outside the home" for £5,000 of cover worldwide, all risks, which includes all my camera gear including in cars (I checked thoroughly!) Not for pro cover though!

My cover is with Castle Cover and my years policy totals £120.
