Camera IQ Query

Hi All,

One thing I've noticed over the years is how distinguishable an image from a 5DMkII is!! when I look at landscape images on Flickr, every amazing landscape is from a 5DMkII, the colour rendition, the sharpness, the tones, everything about the images shouts quality...

Is this one of the traits of Full-Frame? Some people have commented previously on how a FF camera makes an image look almost a little more 3-dimensional, having not used one I have no idea.

As an interesting observation though, my friend who had a 7D, upgraded to the 5DMkII and I noticed immediately on his images that he had changed before he mentioned it to me

I feel almost like a beginner asking this question :bang:, but without having used any full-frame camera I literally have no point of reference.

I think you might be fooling yourself into believing this.

When you are viewing images about 1000 pixels wide, there are many more things affecting the quality of an image than resolution.

Was thinking the same. I have seen amazing photography print/internet using compact cameras

I'm not saying that other camera's don't produce great images, but from what I can see the 5dMk2 does seem to have it's own signature or characteristic.

This reminds me of a story I heard a while ago.

A photographer used to send transparency film taken with his Rolleiflex to a stock agency but had no luck getting his shots accepted until he filed a triangle in the film gate to make the images look like they were taken with a Hasselblad.

Perhaps it's because most users that have a 5D2 know how to make a shot look good whereas most with a lower end model may not have developed that same high level skill

To put it another way, most 5D2 users will be able time get a good shot and the same shot out of anything

That was going to be my reply but the OP went on to say.....

The 5D2 is a peach of a camera for landscape photography though and in this case the person in question may have had the know how to make the most of the move.

It is a good thing you haven't seen many digital medium format photos then

bigger sensor = cleaner files. And it seems that higher end Canon cameras have more neutral color rendition (the Ds/Dx series being the most neutral), which allows for a lot more processing.

Btw there is now 5D mark III
