Camera or lens?

So, I've just got a 5D and have been using a 50mm 1.8 on it but all of a sudden autofocus has stopped working. It doesn't hunt or anything, I press the shutter and nothing happens at all.
Help, please

make sure the switch on the lens is set to AF ?

Yeah, it is. Manual focus works fine, it's not on back button focusing. Unfortunately I don't have another lens to test

2 thoughts...

Try resetting all the custom functions back to default and see if that works, just to be on the safe side.

Secondly, have you tried using MF whilst the lens is in AF mode? The gearing might have sheared.

I've reset all of the settings,
I can't turn the ring when in AF, it's solid

Out of ideas, apart from the obvious, then I'm afraid.

shouldn't you be able to turn the ring a little bit even in AF mode....not easily, but it should still turn.

Does it sound like it's trying to do something when you half-press the shutter ?

For some weird reason it's working now, trying to twist it seems to have done something.

hmm, maybe it got stuck. Sounds like the lens more than the body though.
