Hi noticed at the weekend whilst out shooting that there was loads of hairs in the view finder,
So got home and cleaned the lens the filters and they are still there so blew out the inside of the camera and they are still there, even cleaned the sensor with a pen and they are still there what am i doing wrong,
Is it possible to get dust/hairs on the inside of the viewing glass????
Or is it in need of a proper clean at a shop???
I take it that i am doing this right, i have a 400D and put the camera in cleaning manua mode, then blew on the sensor, (the rectangle at the rear of the opening) with the proper blower, then tried to clean the rectangle at the rear of the opening but still the hairs are there, in the same place aswell so its not like i am just pushing them around.

sorry if this sounds a bit simple but its the only way i can explain it

Thanks

Spike

P.S I took a pic of our cream coloured sofa and zoomed right in and cannot see any dust marks at all which would point to the viewer not the sensor i think??

The hairs won't be on the sensor if you are viewing them through the viewfinder. They will be on the mirror or window it reflects on to inside the camera. Have you cleaned the internal viewing window off... static is a pain so they keep jumping back, but you can do it.

400D tends to get dust, hairs and fibres in the viewfinder. And that's where they are as far as I am aware. In the prism of the viewfinder. It won't affect IQ or impact in any way really apart from being annoying. I've got exactly the same problem but I've now got to the point where I just don't notice them anymore.

If you really wanted to get rid of them I think it is more of a job for the pro's rather than DIY. I personally wouldn't bother unless I was selling the camera.

Hope that helps.

ok just tried cleaning the glass /mirrow with the brush on the end of the blower but to no avail the two hairs are still there along with 6 or 7 black dots.

Can I use a wet lens cleaner on the glass onthe end of the cotton bud type things that came with the cleaning kit to clean the mirrow???

This debris is almost certainly on the focusing screen It wont be on your mirror or the sensor.

If you remove the lens and look upwards inside the camera, the focusing screen forms the roof of that compartment (known as the mirror box)

The likelihood is that the debris is on the side of the focusing screen you can see, where you may be able to blow it or clean it off. It's also possible that it's on the other side of the focusing screen, where you just can't get at it without removing the focusing screen.

It's best ignored tbh, as it's having no effect on your images, although I know it can be annoying. I used to occasionally use an old Nikkormat supplied by work which was yonks old and the screen was covered in tiny hairs, but it produced cracking images.

The focusing screen is easily damaged...beware.

Don't worry about it mate! I have had the same on my eyepiece almost from day one and don't even notice it now. I was quoted £50 for getting a few hairs and dust specs of the viewfinder! I'll put up with it!!

ok update

Ran the soft brush gently over the focusing screen and guess what yep they have all gone
really happy now.
