Hey,

This is my first thread on the site and glad to be a part of it.

I will be buying a camera today from amazon, my budget is £150-£200.

I am looking for a DSLR camera, I will be using it for taking live photographs eg. gigs, band performances and bands on tour photography.

I am quite a perfectionist when it come to my photographs so I want to make sure I buy the best one with the money I have available now.

If any of you guys 'n girls could help me out it would be much appreciated.

I will be buying today.

I'm afraid that, with your budget, it is highly unlikely you will get anything resembling a DSLR and don't forget you will be needing a lens and memory card. I'm not even sure you will find anything decent 2nd hand.
If you can get around £400 it will open the door for an entry level DSLR and kit lens.

I think the best you'll get within you budget is a used canon 350D and a used canon 50mm f/1.8 II
That combination should produce sharp, nice images and be decent in low light.

I would usually say to go look at a few different models from different brands, but I don't think you'll get anything better for your purpose within that budget.

As said, with that budget you are really pushing it. For live work you need a camera with good clean high ISO and lenses below f/2.8. Most lenses below f/2.8 cost more than your budget alone, apart from aforemention 50mm f/1.8.

You'll be best shooting in RAW, so you'll need a couple of decent capacity cards, especially if going on tour with a band. My last tour was 2 weeks and I shot over 2000 images across 4 or 5 cards.

Didnt even know Amazon had 2nd hand DSLR's for that money.

You won't find a dslr with lens let alone a card with that budget. Really you should add £100 - £200 just to cover the very basics.

For example, a used Canon 400d (ideal starter camera) on amazon starts at £263, add another £20 for a decent card and £80 for the most inexpensive low light lens (canon 50mm f/1.8).

I'd budget for around £400 personally.

Hey Guys thanks for all your posts, this really helped. Time to crack into the student loan i guess.

I think I'll need to pick a choose wisely to get best value for money and quality.

I shot with and know a very well regarded gig shooter who still shoots with a nikon D200 and 50mm f/1.8.
She is constantly booked and has shot some of the biggest metal bands in the business.
You'd pick that kit up for £450 ish if you are lucky.
You could subsitute the D200 for a D80 and save some cash. You'd need some sort of noise reduction software mind.
