Hiya,

I am getting a lovely, shiney new bike next week, and I am wanting to take my camera with me on some rides.

Question is…. What bag to get?

I would like enough room for obviously my camera and lenses, and also some food/drink/raincoat etc.

Cheers

I've got a Lowepro Micro trekker. It's a rucksack/backpack type bag. I can fit my 40d with 70-200 2.8 L (plus 1.4 extender and hood reversed) plus my 400d with a short lens and hood reversed in the main part. Plus cards etc in the pockets. I put my mobile in one of the side pockets, purse in the zip down bit right at the front. I've got another Lowepro bag that I've never used, I think it's a fastpack, I only use that to store cables in and its never left the house. I don't really like that bag because where you put your camera, and then undo the zip, the camera could fall out. Also, if you were on a beach and had to put the bag down on the sand to get something out, the sand would be able to enter the bag.

I cycle with my camera too and I've got two big panniers on the bike. I find that a lot more useful than trying to cram everything in the camera bag. I have on occasion, put the camera bag in one of the panniers.

I'd say go for a rucksack style.

Crazyhorse, I'm currently looking for a new bag and have been looking at the Vertex 200 which was kindly suggested to me earlier today.

However, in an attempt to look at all avenues do you think the Micro Trekker would hold a Canon 450d with Sigma 150-500?? I may well have to go into a shop to test this out.

Thanks

i can highly recommend the lowepro fastpack 250...holds a fair bit of camera equipment, plus enough food/dring/waterproofs you require in the top section:thumbs:

I've just bought one of these myself and its a very nice bag with plenty of room for camera gear and other essentials. The only downside if I was taking it biking is that it doesn't come with an all weather cover so its likely to get covered in muck if you go offroad or ride in wet weather.

you can get a waterproof cover for them from millets etc..got mine for around £6

I was using the Lowepro Rover AW2.

Good bag when i had my 20D, not big enough for the D700 w/ grip

Lisa, the only drawback I see to putting camera equipment in panniers is that if you were to have an accident and the bike was dropped, your camera kit will take a direct hit:'(
