You can find out your shutter count by uploading a pic to www.camerashuttercount.com it will also tell you your % used for the shutter life. Hope this helps.

Who told you that? Wait till it breaks (hopefully never).
A service on the 1100D would probably cost not far off a new replacement. My advice - run it into the ground, then buy a second hand 40D/50D. (Or a 550D!)
