Camera Servicing - anybody used this guy?

No, but the name is very familar from recommendations on other forums. I just did a quick Google, and the first link I came up with was this, which isn't a forum I frequent, so he's mentioned elsewhere.

I haven’t used Ed, but I’ve come across his name a lot on the internet and as far as I know he’s a well respected repairer. He’s certainly top of my list to contact if/when my Contax II needs any work doing. I guess if you google his name rather than europhotoservices, you’ll find lots of mentions/endorsements.

I wouldn't hesitate to use Ed Trzoska, though I haven't so far. The late Ivor Matanle often mentioned him as an skilled technician in his classic camera columns in Amateur Photographer. I've also seen favourable comments in forums, and heard others at the Photographica fair in London.

Thanks guys.

I have just had a reply from him and he states he is close to retirement and winding down.

:-(

It is a worry. It would be good if some of these guys would take on an apprentice or something like that, but I suspect there's too little margin in it.

Leica specialist Alan Starkie of Cameraworks-UK is now working with his son James.

Newton Ellis are still going strong and have provided excellent service for me in the past.

I asked about Ed because I was looking at buying a Rolleiflex he had recently serviced. I have since purchased the camera and love it; Ed also sent a lovely email back - it's a shame these people are retiring.

I recently approached several repairers to sort out a faulty/sticking shutter on a Mamiya Sekor 50mm f4.5. I was surprised that the highest initial "sight unseen" quote was from Newton Ellis.

Lens is now with Miles for repair (fingers crossed).

I am resigning myself to the fact that there is going to be a diminishing number of repairers over the coming years, and that acquiring the best condition kit is going to become a higher priority.

Unfortunately sometimes the 'best condition kit' has been stood unused which is the worst thing possible for these old girls :-(

Now why did my mind suddenly hark back to one of Humphrey Littleton's introductions to the light-hearted radio show 'I'm sorry I haven't a clue'?
