Soon there’ll be nobody left to service our older cameras :-(Thanks guys.
I have just had a reply from him and he states he is close to retirement and winding down.
:-(
Leica specialist Alan Starkie of Cameraworks-UK is now working with his son James. It is a worry. It would be good if some of these guys would take on an apprentice or something like that, but I suspect there's too little margin in it.
I recently approached several repairers to sort out a faulty/sticking shutter on a Mamiya Sekor 50mm f4.5. I was surprised that the highest initial "sight unseen" quote was from Newton Ellis.
Lens is now with Miles for repair (fingers crossed).
I am resigning myself to the fact that there is going to be a diminishing number of repairers over the coming years, and that acquiring the best condition kit is going to become a higher priority.
Now why did my mind suddenly hark back to one of Humphrey Littleton's introductions to the light-hearted radio show 'I'm sorry I haven't a clue'?Unfortunately sometimes the 'best condition kit' has been stood unused which is the worst thing possible for these old girls :-(
