Hello again!

Tried my hand at a night time long exposure today.. Bit put out by the finished product! Apart from being underexposed (2 min exposure on bulb) There looks to be severe camera shake on the moon but nowhere else. I can't work it out at all! The shot was taken on a tripod, with a remote shutter release. The settings were:

f/25
ISO 100
120 sec exposure
55mm

Any ideas?

That's not camera shake.

It's the effect of the Earth's and Moon's rotation during a 2 minute exposure!

:agree: you only need to do a quick exposure as the moon is moving alot faster then you think ...........

it could be a great shot too! next time try f5.6 iso 800/1600 and 20 secs. that should eliminate the blur of the moon moving through the sky.

If you want detail in the moon, however, you will need to take two exposures.

The moon is an object that is being lit by the sun, so needs a much much shorter exposure.

D'oh! Should of thought of that! I really need to get me some new lenses so I can zoom on the moon some more!

It rather depends on what the moon state is.

During a full moon I was shooting at F9, ISO 200 @ 1/100-1/500th; although admittedly it's not the best time to try to photograph it.

Totally, moon shots are close to being hand-holdable i find.

In a sense you need to under expose the moon compared to how it might appear to our eyes, because there is more detail there than we can actually see due to the brightness of it compared to the sky

I thought longest exposure on 450D was 30 seconds like most Canons, how does one get it to 120 seconds?

By either using bulb mode, or better (to avoid camera shake) by using a remote cable with either a lock down switch and a stop watch or one with a timer.
