Nothing dodgy going on, but want to know please if its possible to make a hard copy on a CD of camera software
Thinking of Canon EOS and DPP, I own the originals and a copy would only be for my use

Is it possible or are they protected in some way, if not can I store the programs on an external hard drive or a flash drive

Thanks and sorry if its a stupid question, but i'm not very computer savvy

You should be able to copy it ok, and are perfectly entitled to since it's your own.

ImgBurn is very good for things like this (free) - you can copy the disc as an ISO file to your hard drive, and either keep it there in case you need it, or burn it back to another disc....

:agree: with this, I will just add that if you get Deamon Tools Lite (also free) you can mount the ISO file as if it was a CD/DVD without having to burn it again.
 
Always copy your software, file the original and work from the copy :)

What does mount mean in this context please?
 
All it means is that the sofware will give you a virtual ROM on your computer - if you have a ROM that is currently your D: drive, you will then have an icon for an E: drive showing as a ROM - you can then 'mount' ISO images to this as if they were actually CD's/DVD's and run software (or whatever the ISO image containts) from this drive.... you can also do a direct copy, drive to drive, from virtual to physical....

Thanks I sort of get that

Did the business with ImgBurn, copied the disc as an iso file and then burnt it back to a CD

Worked fine, so thanks all for your advice

May be worth getting the latest DPP update copied too, just in case Canon pull it from their download site.
