Camera swap question...

Hey guys,

Sorry I've not posted in a while, been really busy with other things. Think the last time I was out with the camera was about three weeks ago...

Anyway, I have a question and hopefully you guys can sway me in the right direction.

I have at the moment a Canon 500d with the 18-55 IS kit lens. My work has a Canon 5d purchased Summer 2007. Now they are offering a swap for my 500d and lens for their 5d (Body-only). Reason behind it is because they need the live-view feature.

Camera itself is in good nick etc, I'll just need to pick up a EF lens. It feels so nice in the hand compared to the smaller and lighter 500d too.

I mainly take landscape shots and will take some pics at horse trials next year. I know the 5d doesn't have a on-board flash but I haven't used the one on the 500d yet so this isn't important either.

Personally I think I should jump at the change but would like to hear your thoughts!

Thanks in advance!!!

Personally I'd dive in there. Its a fantastic camera and the full frame / tonal rage are glorious for landscape work.

I guess I'd go for it if I were a Canon... however expect a big step backward in terms of picture viewing, menus, etc and quite obviously HD video! :)

Awesome, thanks for input guys!

I thought it would be an excellent deal, I had a look at them second hand before buying the 500d and they were floating around at 800 quid body only so I think it's good too.

I know I'd lose the HD video feature, but I wouldn't use it much (if at all) anyway so its not that bad... Hopefully I can get it swapped over this week! :)

Grab it, but get the transfer in writing too.

One thing that might be worth considering is that the original 5D was (so some said) a bit of a dust magnet. The 500D has an inbuilt cleaning system which whilst probably not being 100% effective will certainly do some good. So, if you are the type who'll notice contamination and are nervous about cleaning your sensor the 5D might be a bit of a hassle. You'll also lose your on camera flash.
