Camera sync

Hi everyone,
I looking to buy a studio set up as I'm wanting to turn one of the rooms into a small studio.
The kit I'm looking at at the moment has lights, umbrellas, soft boxes, bg etc, the question I have is, I have a d3100, will this camera sync with the lights?

Yes, but You'll need a hotshoe adaptor, as your camera has no PC flash sync socket.

That's a genuine Nikon one, but you can get cheaper third party ones that do the same job for much less.

A hot-shoe PC adapter will allow you to use the sync lead that should come with the kit, but you'd probably be better off with a basic manual radio trigger for wireless sync, eg Yongnuo RF-602 for around £30, or similar - slips in hot-shoe. Good for OCF outdoors as well.

And a sync lead, but I'd be amazed if one doesn't come with the lighting kit. The remote triggers as mentioned above will work well too. You fit the transmitter into the camera's hotshoe, just as if it was a flash, and the plug the receiver(s) into the lights.

If you go for the radio trigger option, you will not need a hotshoe adaptor. Radio triggers are tidier as well... no cables. I just like the reliability of a cable.. no flat batteries etc.. but that's just me. Either option will work perfectly with your camera and lights.
