I've had a look around with the search tool but couldn't find anything super useful, so decided to start a new thread. Sorry if it's all been asked before.

I'm looking for a wireless remote system by which I can trigger a second camera whilst operating the first normally. So when I fire the first camera, the second will fire too.

I'm not looking for the remotes where a third hand is needed but one that sits on top of my main camera that will fire my other camera whilst I shoot away.

Hope that all makes sense.

I am currently using a Nikon D700 and D300. Price wise, I'm happy to have a good look around and see what comes up.

ebay Yongnuo I think it was - around 30 ukp for remote and trigger... On the more pro cameras you can use the remote to fire the camera; with the remote on your camera and the trigger on the other.

I've not tried shooting at the same time with two cameras, but the remote release works very well as does of camera flash triggering. So in theory would do what you want.


This is the shop I got mine from Yongnuo 602 - Trying to remember how quick delivery was.. pretty fast, few days to a week?

Pocket Wizards do this.

One PW goes into the hotshoe on your camera, the other is connected via a (usually very expensive) cable to your second camera.

When buying the cable make sure you get the one that has an in-line switch otherwise the second camera can go to sleep and doesn't awake in time to fire the shot.

Can you get a PW set that is all wireless. The set up I'm thinking is going to be something along the lines of;

Horse Racing - Me one side of the track with long lens, second camera otherside with wide angle

Rugby/Football - In the corner with long lens, other camera behind posts/goal wide angle.
 
A set of RF-602 should do the job, just make sure you get the correct 10-pin cable supplied as it may not come with the set.
 
Yeah I do this a lot.

I just bought a cheapie cable so I can use my Pocket Wizards. RF602s work mostly but you get odd dropped frames on the remote camera.

Most recently used it on this shoot http://peoplebyryan.com/photoblog/rice-butterflies

Not sure it's entirely appropriate for your applications though. Why not just press the transmit button to fire the remote? Not certain why you need synchronised cameras.

When you say the transmit button, you mean on the sender?

I am under the impression I would have both hands full zooming and shooting with the first camera to press the button.

Regarding a mini tripod, this'll do won't it....

Yes - but you can tape a transmitter to the barrel of a 70 - 200 and then hit it with your thumb to fire the remote. Or use a bite trigger ;)

One advantage is that it doesn't require the trigger camera to lock focus before you fire the second which could be important in an action situation.

For horses/rugby (i.e. on grass) I'd prefer a gound spike - http://www.newprouk.co.uk/cullmann-general-accessories.html (or make your own). Takes far less space and more stable.
