A 7D would be a very good choice if you can afford it due to the improved AF and higher pixel count for cropping.
You can get a new one for around £1240 and used ones go for between £1000 and £1100 depending on condition and age.
Of course you have to make sure that you have the right lenses first before upgrading to a better body as using the 7D with a budget lens will not give better results than using the same lens with a 450D (which is a very capable camera)
