Camera Upgrade (Motorsports)

I'm looking to upgrade my Camera for Motorsport based photography, I've been battling with my D40 for the last couple of years and I'm ready to move up to a more specialised SLR.

I've spent the last week or so researching into what I should move on to and the two models I seem to keep stumbling across are the Nikon D5100/5000 and the Canon 600D. My price range is around the £400/600 mark so these two are looking very appealing at the moment.

What I also want to consider is lenses, the D40 was perfect for the entry level I was at when I got it but when it came to buying lenses (70/300mm) I wanted to hurt myself.

So I just was wanted a more experienced take on what I should be looking at/purchasing.

Thanks

I'm not an expert on the nikon range, but £400-600 should put you into the range of a used D300. It might not be the most recent tech, but for speed and operation it'll easily outclass any of the other models you listed.

Might not be an option if the £400-600 budget has to include a lens as well though. What are you using at the moment?

Before you buy a new body - which lens are you using for motor sport?

It may be the lens AF speed that is holding you back...
