I have a friend who has asked me for some advice, I have told her im not that good with equipment so will ask on here for her.

She is looking for a good quick camera, something with a decent zoom. Don't think it matter if is interchangeable lens or not. She mainly wants it for holidays, snap shots ect, she has no plans to use it for anything other than fun really.

Her budget is £170 defo no more than £200

Any suggestions for a starting point?

You can get a good spec high end compact camera for around the £170-200 mark, something like a Canon SX230 or Sony HX10. They're just about pocket sized, and both pack a big zoom, Canon is 14x, Sony is 16x.

Alternatively, a mid-range Bridge camera is an option if she's after something a bit bigger. Think along the lines of a Fujifilm S4500 (30x zoom), but it could be worth stretching the budget to something like £220 for a Panasonic FZ48 (24x zoom) - Leica lens, better build quality, etc.
