Did my first equine event in the rain yesterday, mainly with the wife holding a brolly over the camera!!!

How water proof are cameras, lenses in these conditions? I was using and s5pro, and D90 with 16-85 and 70-300vr respectively?

They both survived, thankfully!

pro bodies and lenses are supposed to be considered fully weather proof, the cheaper the camera the less it is.

I have used my D60 and kit lens when it's been spitting but i'd never use it in normal rain.

You normally find the lens and camera seals are good apart from around switches, 7D has a weird on off switch, mine got wet and would not turn on, luicky once it was dry it was fine so i guess an electiral contact got wet.

Glad your kit survived. Bit surprised you weren't asked to take the brolly down. I've known many horses spook at them !

indeed, its bad enough getting grief from riders when holding a 300mm lens let alone a brolley..

id concider something like a stormjacket or optech for future use.

Has anyone got a "Storm Jacket"? They are quite expensive for what they are, but if they work and are good quality i guess they are worth as much as a new camera!!

got 2, one of the regular ones for the 70-200 and a pro one for the 120-300.

personally i prefer them to the optech, theyre open backed so dont steam up and the elastic opening at the front of the lens seems to stay put better than the optech.
