Cameras of the future - downloadable apps?

Was discussing this on another forum. With the onslaught of apps for phones and tablets will it be long before we see apps incorporated into camera software? Just think, Basic setup on new DSLR/Mirrorless or whatever, Download apps from Canon, Nikon, Panasonic or whoever for a couple ££ and use. I was thinking of apps like Photoshop for on camera editing before sending wirelessly to the net, Facebook or Flickr etc or an app for auto HDR or perhaps one that instantly converts your images to look like Kodacolor 64 film which is editable. Just think of the possibilities!!!
 
I can see it happening 1st with compacts and then the rest in the end will be sure to follow. It's happening now with the iphone to some degree so it won't be long. I think it could be really fun but you could always stick to the normal way as we have now.
 
What is futuristic about it? My Android phone contains a camera and a copy of PhotoShop Mobile (free!), plus all the wireless connectivity I could wish for, so I can already do pretty much what you outlined.

(Not that I would really want to, mind, but that's a different issue.)
 
Might be fun for snaps but I'd lose most of what I enjoy about taking pictures.

Nor me. But it's much bigger than the screen on my (proper) camera!
 
Am I the only one who absolutely dreads that!?

I don't want apps, or in camera editing, at all. I enjoy the process of taking a photograph, and if necessary, taking it into photoshop CS5 on my PC, and having an incredible set of tools at my disposal. I don't want vignetting filters and hipster tonal effect rubbish on my expensive, beautifully made DSLR. I want it to take beautiful photographs with low noise at high ISO. NO in camera editing whatsoever.

You cant ever replicate having CS5 on your computer, with a mouse, keyboard etc... At your disposal, on a 3 inch screen and a bunch of buttons on the back of your camera.

Please god let this never catch on!
 
Unless you shoot in auto what is the point of an APP on the camera?

What is it going to do? other then play MP3z while you shoot which could be handy I guess "bop bop bop" "Click click click" other then that Waste of time I don't need to check FB while i shoot.
 
There are plenty of old people like me who struggle to see the three inch screen on the back of the camera.
I just look at the histogram because the picture is so small I can't see any detail.

Apps in the camera is something I wont yearn for. Good luck to the young.

I just read an interview with one of the Panasonic head honcho's who kind of commented on this area, particularly with regard to wifi and uploading remotely from cameras.
The rise of touch screens will undoubtedly bring in more in camera processing options, and in camera HDR already exists, my S95 has it.
