Cameras without chargers

I see there's a new penny pinching idea creeping in from manufacturers, ie not including a battery charger with the camera.

The Olympus XZ-1 doesn't have one, so that's a 400 quid camera that can't be used because it's laying around waiting to get damaged by the kids/ dog/stray coffee while it's charging up.

The Samsung EX1 doesn't have a battery charger with it either. I went into Jessops to have a look for a new camera, and really liked the look of the Samsung. I went to turn it on, but guess which was the only camera on display with a flat battery? It was still not charged 2 weeks later! It saved me some money though, as I would have bought it before finding out it over exposes and doesn't like highlights, so thanks Samsung.

Cameras are meant to take pictures, not charge batteries. 400 quid for a camera you have to leave in the hotel room on holiday?

Chargers probably don't even cost 50p to be made in China, so why put me off buying your camera for the sake of a few pennies?

The ideal of not carrying any additional hardware actually appeals to me - especially on holidays. Although I do appreciate to be able to charge a spare battery whilst I am out using the camera. I guess to some degree it's like mobile phones, mp3 players etc - most of them if not all have built in chargers and so far no harm has come of them in the household.

Somthing else to get annoyed about is the trend towards chipped batteries to try and stop you buying a cheapo 3rd party one and make you buy a mega expensive one from the manufacturer.

mmmm I have had no problem with over exposing or higlights... and it has no charger as you can charge it via any USB and the same cable is used for PC connection a la mobile phones, its quite a handy feature on a premium compact IMO..
