Hi

I'm wanting to camouflage my lens for wildlife photography, anyone got any advice as to the best method and where to buy?

Thanks

Rob

What size lens?

Wouldn't use paint! Just in case you get any one the glass. The neoprene covers from Wildlife Watching Supplies are great and can easilly be put on and taken off. Plus add some extra protection from knocks and the elements.

If you want to go cheap, I bought some camo material for a £1 and 1 hour later with the sewing machine I had a camo'd lens. Not as good as the wildlife watching supplies ones but I am a student....

i bought a pair of small camo trouses and cut the leg of to make a cover for my 500f4 -it took the full leg lol
and its water proof too
Rob.

ANother vote for Wildlife Watching Supplies. I'd rather support a fellow photographer in business than Lenscoat who are an American corporation - not that their stuff isn't good

Bide your time mate, there are things in the pipeline......

??? Want to keep us in the loop ;)

I can`t just yet, need to finalise things with the guys who own this place, but should be sorted soon.

And then you`ll know.......:D

Another vote fro Wildlife watching supplies here. had a few from Kev. Excellent service every time. Made one to order for my 70-200mm vr also.
Will continue to get my business.

I use Lens Coats for general protection. Depending on the surroundings and the camo used they can blend in well too.

I'm going to pick up some sheets of camo netting when I'm back in Florida next week as it's handy to just drape over the lens when you know you'll be shooting from one fixed location for a few hours.

Making sure your hands and face are covered is even more important. For that I have various types of gloves and also a baseball cap that has fold down netting so your face and head are totally covered.

I swear by a scrim scarf (you can get them for around £6 on ebay) and 'sniper' tape to keep it in place/change it as required. As others have said, the benefit of having the scarf is that it can cover your hands and even part of your face/head if you're close to your subjects. Failing that wear gloves and balaclava/mosquito veil (dependent on temperature!) for your face.

Keep an eye on Ebay as a guy i know will be selling woodland camo neoprene fabric in various sizes and colours (direct from States) in next couple of weeks so you can make your own. very cheap too as his contact in States actually makes the stuff!

I should also state I've got a DPM camo waterproof cover too...thanks for reminding me Claymore!
