can a mgentic clasp on a case cause any damage to the camera?

This is from a Nikon camera manual:

Keep away from strong magnetic fields: Do not use or store this device in the vicinity of equipment that generates strong electromagnetic radiation or magnetic fields. Strong static charges or the magnetic fields produced by equipment such as radio transmitters could interfere with the monitor, damage data stored on the memory card, or affect the product’s internal circuitry.

I don't think the magnet in your case clasp counts as a strong magnetic field.

Keep it away from MRI or scrap yard magnets. The rest should be fine

I imagine the kind of strength these things have isn't an issue.

Panasonic official lines were:

"Regarding your inquiry, I would like to inform you that, as any electrical product, it is not recommended that the camera is used in areas with magnetic fields, static electricity or interference, such as near microwave ovens. This would mostly likely cause damage to the built-in or memory cards in the unit. However, the small magnet on the case will not cause any damage to the camera. "

Based on that you'd best not use it in the er, universe. You probably shouldn't turn the camera on either.
