Can anyone ID this?

Just spotted this in the garden and had a go at taking a 'specimen' shot on black card. It's about 45mm long with a 60mm wingspan.

I just don't know what it is. Any help appreciated.

That is a poplar Hawk Moth (Laothoe populi). Nice shot.

Many thanks for that. I looked everywhere for a similar shot to ID it but couldn't find one. Now you've told me the name I realise that it is quite common in the UK.
