Can anyone work this out for me please (aperture equivalent )?

What put you off? I tried the Xt1 and quite liked it, although I didn't find AF as snappy as olly.

Three things really.

1. The menus and terminology used were really confusing, and look very old fashioned. I know people say Oly is bad for its menu system but I found the switch from Nikon pretty easy and the Fuji just made no sense to me
2. The UI - buttons and wheels in all the wrong places for me
3. It just felt half-arsed, a bit like they'd tried to do retro but kept all the wrong bits. Some of the buttons felt really nice and some (like the thumb wheel) felt cheap and nasty.

Also, the lenses were noisy and the focus ring moved on AF, granted this is only the lenses I tried (it was the two primes that come as part of a kit) but it was like going back to noisy old AFD lenses, not so nice when you're used to the silent and lovely m43 lenses.

On the other hand, the image quality and jpgs are simply lovely, I can understand people loving the simpler X100T (except I don't really like 35mme) and I wonder if the pared down XT10 would be better?

I actually bought my wife an X30 and she loves it, again I find the menus a bit confusing but she loves it and the images are lovely too.
 
Hi Ned,

Were the two Fuji lenses you tried the two that come with the X-Pro, i.e. 18/2 and 27/2.8? If so, they are some of the oldest, hence they are slightly noisier and slower to focus, like the Panasonic 20/1.7. The focus ring doesn't move, but the old lenses don't internally focus which I think is what you mean. The newer Fuji lenses are much quieter and focus internally.

OK, not my experience but I have a different combination of cameras and lenses. I cannot argue with your main point about noise : E-M1 is noisier than all the Fujis.

With a similar 50mm-ish f1.7-ish lens on each, in low light my stabilised e-pL7 is far better than my unstabilised X-E1 mostly because of the massive useable shutterspeed difference,
however I dislike smoothly-cooked files where the noise is smeared away so the m4/3rds files appeal more to my eye.

Yeah, they're the ones. I realised they were probably oldies and this was just a little thing on top of not liking the XT1, if I'd liked the camera the lenses would have been forgiven.

Obviously lots of people love the Fuji like so it just goes to show you should have a play with a camera before you buy.
