Can Canon prices go up any more?

Made the choice a while ago to go full frame, so i weigh up options, budget etc, and come to decision of 5DMk2, now i first started thinking about it a while ago when it was just under £1600, then it went up to just under £1700, then thought i'd play safe, wait till after MOT time etc, so car flies through MOT, i go online to buy from a shop not too far from me (at the time that was lowest price on camerapricebuster, and the bonus they're near me in case of problems) that quoted 2 weeks to get it and i could collect, now shot up to over £1700. (Nearly £200 higher than when i first looked into buying)

So i'm out.

Surely by upping the prices seemingly every week, they're losing money not gaining it.

I know the moral is don't wait in the future, but how bloody frustrating are prices at the moment.
 
I think a lot of the price increases at the moment are routed in the on going issues in Japan, and the supply of cameras and lens getting harder to source hence the price going up, I'm sure once things improve on the supply front then things will improve on the price front :thumbs:

Simple supply and demand, at the moment there's not much pro gear due to what happened in Japan. People are will to pay a premium for it. Once Canon and Nikon get their supply chains going again I'm sure prices will come down.
 
Try phoning around. I've read somewhere 5D2s are in very short supply at the mo. which will drive prices....
 
I noticed that on camerapricebuster myself, even some lenses have gone up 20% in the last year.

I paid just over £800 for my 24-70 and its about a grand now... If you can even find it.

I think the cheapest 5d2 is well over £60 more than I paid for it a year ago which isnt too bad with the VAT rise I guess.

Its the lenses which seemed to have just sky rocketed. I remember when I ordered both my 24-70 and 70-200 last year there were supply issues then.

Good luck getting hold of anything :-(

Why not buy a very good used one with low shutter count, seem to be a popular camera at the mo so stick a wanted add in the classifieds and see what happens

Fukushima is where one of the Canon manufacturing plants is.

Sigma also have a base in Fukushima and the new macro 150mm OS is taking a very long time from announcement to release
 
I was looking into a refurbished mkII from eBay but they were going for 1500 plus. But I got a cracker of a price off Kerso over a month ago, he had 3 in stock at the time. Highly recommended.
 
A lot of the price rise is due to the earthquake/tsunami. A lot of it is due to the strength of the Yen and weakness of the Pound. And the latter will be responsible for the fact that prices will not drop back down to pre-earthquake levels. Not until the GBP is worth something again, which isn't likely to happen while the country's workforce is laid off and interest rates are close to zero.
 
Canon is going to fix the supply problem sooner or later. They are expanding production in Taiwan at the moment, and just announced a "new" consumer lens. There are coming back up. They might try to take advantage of the higher prices, and push the new models even higher. Once the new bodies hit the market (no pun intended), the old ones will have nowhere else to go but down. Probably not so with lenses, if we follow 70-200mm f/2.8 II. 5D II is due for a replacement shortly, so it would be desperate to pay premium for one unless necessary for work.
 
It's even worse when you look back to prices a few years back.
I bought my 35l from kerso for £650 sold it two years later for £300 more.
 
Just get it bought and get yourself out there taking pictures. Waiting has already cost you enough. Be a man, stop fannying about! Do it.

Yeah it's crazy. I don't think its Canons fault though I think it's more about the Yen/£ FX rate.
 
my car was up for mot this thursday, just as my new sigma 24-70 arrived. car failed (needed a couple of ball joints) and girlfriend wasn't impressed when she saw the new lens because:

1: the car needed more £ spent on it for parts/labour/retest

2: she didn't know i had ordered it :O

the canon supply chain is bound to be a bit off track at the minute with the recent events in the region, but i've been reading about supply problems with canon for a while now - before the earthquake/tsunami this year.
