Can I get a 4000mm for my 7D?

Seen the video - well worth a watch just for the stunning imaginary!

I think the lens weighed something like 100 Kilo's - would love to see the tripod!

Seriously, I was at the STS-129 launch last year and have never seen so many 800mm and the odd 1200mm lenses on gimbal set-ups!

I am truly amazed at what mankind can achieve given enough time, money, and desire to perform... the video ain't bad either.

I've stood next to one of the long-range cameras that NASA use. Custom-built and very big - you certainly wouldn't be carrying one around with you. :D

And yes, I can vouch for the number of long lenses on show at launches. And the number of compacts too. I got one (and only one) great shot from my 70-300 IS (it's posted here), so you don't have to have a massive lens. :)

Would love to go back and have another try (my new 7D would certainly help), but there's no way I could afford it. I'm just glad I picked STS-131 instead of STS-133. Feel sorry for anyone who was planning on this launch, but that's what can happen in the space business.

PS - There's at least one 800mm lens on-board ISS. If only the rest of us didn't have to worry about gravity's effects on our kit. :)
