Sorry if this is the wrong forum if so perhaps a mod can move it please.

Hi can anyone tell me if a Canon camera will fire a Nikon SB-800 Speedlight wirelessly, don't want to use it on the camera but as a secondary light source?

Sorry if this is a bit of a thick question to ask but speedlites/flash are a complete mystery to me.

Thanks in advance

Carol

I'm sure that you can use the SB800's optical slave facility if the Canon body is controlling another flash or with the addition of a radio triggering system. Some functionality will be lost (i-TTL/ETTL) but the concept of firing should be fine.

Thanks for your reply Bob I already have a Neewer speedlight and and twin trigger set which I have been practicing with on and off my camera. I just wondered if it would be worth purchasing my friends Nikon flash as a second flash unit.

Since you won't be able to use all the whizzo features of the Nikon flash, just manual control, you could pick up almost any old flash of appropriate power more cheaply, or even a new manual-only flash, unless getting a better deal on the Nikon price.
