Can some one show me the difference between 200mm and 300mm?

as the title says, has anyone got a comparison of the same picture at 200 and at 300 please?

looking into a new lens thats all.

Are you looking for identical, as in f/stop, shutter speed, focal length of subject Robbo? What is it that you are wanting to compare as such? :shrug:

Remember to adjust for the 1.6 multiplier for your sensor if needed...

Purely just for size comparision, I might get rid of a 70 to 300 and get a 18 to 200 that's all

Uncle Ken has a comparison of the 70-300mm AF-S @ 200mm and 300mm here.

Note that the 18-200mm isn't 200mm at anything less than infinity focus (yes the focal length changes with focus at the long end).

The 18-200 is great for a do-it-all, and the 70-300 is great for when you need tele (sports and birding). If I had to have one I'd have the 18-200, but I'd be loathe to sell my 70-300, it's a great lens for when you need it.

Focal lengths are specified with focus at infinity.....all complex lenses will have reduced focal length at shorter distances. A 100mm macro (for example) is typically only 78mm at minimum focus distance.

thanks for all the replies.

It came about as with my 70-300mm, i like it and is good but i was wondering if i would benefit from the IS in the canon lens at this zoom range.

Ive had all my gear for only about 3 weeks now, eos 450d, tamron 70-300mm, canon 18-55 IS and canon 60mm marco f.2.8 (love it) lol

maybe im trying to think too far ahead for situations i might need long zoom without my tripod....

Have you tried using your 300mm lens at 200mm?

There is the canon 70-300 IS of course

I have the 450 with the 18-55 IS and 55-250 IS ... perfect range for starters
