I've been having trouble accessing their site for a couple of days now; I've tried through various friends locally, but all seem to be getting the same issue.

Can someone please have a try, and see if they're able to get on to their page?

Really Right Stuff Link

Thanks

worked for me too

I was able to get onto their website - but it did have this message which may explain why you are having some difficulties:

Thanks everyone, for trying this out for me :)

Great to know there's nothing wrong with their site and business. Now, to figure out what's blocking access to their site from Saudi

lostsoulal2,

Thank you so much for the details on this. I will try to figure out what's the problem, failing that, I'll drop them an email

Nowadays, so much Internet content is cached locally by ISP's that you may not be looking at their live site.......................
or for some unknown reason it is deemed an unsuitable website????

I am hoping that when they've updated their site, it didn't get cached to my region as yet. Funny enough, I was able to access them not too long ago (about 10 days ago).

Saudi authorities are notorious for blocking offending & demeaning sites / servers etc. However, if such a site is blocked then I'd get a message telling me so; I hope this isn't the case here and that it's only a cache issue.

Thanks :)

I ordered the BH55 and some plates from them at the weekend and had terrible problems with their site, it was very slow and seemed to stop loading the page with the status bar saying "waiting for translate.google.com".

Why they would have any links to google translation I don't know. It did this on every page and needed a refresh to load properly.
The head was ordered eventually, it was shipped on Monday and in the UK on Tuesday, delayed due to snow, but I should get it tomorrow.

Mark,

Thank you, I keep getting "Safari can’t open the page “http://www.reallyrightstuff.com/” because your computer isn’t connected to the Internet.". Safe to presume that it is surely something to do with their servers.

I am hoping to order an L-Plate, the BH55, and their small tripod (TP-243).

Been on their site a fair amount the last few days - no problems.

How are you getting on now? Sorted?

If there's anything you need or want some screenshots, download their catalogue etc., let me know and I'll do my best.

Thanks sonny :). I haven't been able to access their site, I'm still getting the server error message. I've shot them an email and waiting to hear back from them.

I actually know exactly what I want to order, I just need to get access to the site to do the order

How ironic, only a few days ago I was able to access them; now that I've made up my mind to go with RRS, as opposed to Kirk or Gitzo, I can't do the order :bang:

Erm, that error message would seem to suggest a problem more at your end than theirs.

If it was theirs, then surely it would report 'temporarily unavailable'?

Thanks for bringing that matter to my notice. I was checking their site from various machines and that message came up when I stupidly turned off my WiFi!

This is the actual message I'm getting, while I'm connected to the Internet :p ...

Safari can’t open the page “http://www.reallyrightstuff.com/” because the server where this page is located isn’t responding.

...

Thanks for bringing that to my notice :bonk:

Can I ask someone to please check for me what IP they're getting when accessing their site?

Thanks :)

orking ok for me - but they do have this notice on the front page:

Thank you, Andrew.

I've shot off an email to carla, from the email kindly given by lostsoulal2 (post #6 above), but things aren't resolved yet. I hope they're looking into it.

I've also sent the details of the problem to an IT specialist here in Saudi, to try and look into it from this end. Friday being weekend here, I will not have any news until later tomorrow.

Again, thank you for all the kind help and feedbacks.

Just an update; came home this evening and found that I can now access their site .

I haven't a clue as to who did what, where or how; so allow me to thank you all for your kind help & support .

I'm off to order what I need in the hope that I can get them before Christmas vacation :).

Got my BH55 today! Ordered on sunday. That's what I call quick service, so you should have time.
Still waiting for a tripod from Warehouse express, ordered on the same day.
You'll love the BH55, it is proper gear.

Glad to hear that . What type of camera / lens plate are you using, if I may ask?

I've been holding off buying a new ballhead and tripod until I was 100% sure of which way to go. It was down to RRS / Kirk / Gitzo; I opted for RRS in the end.

We've had a small glitch with the ordering, their site kept going in circles without allowing us to do the checkout; so, we completed the order by phone :bang:. Had I known we could order by phone, we would have done so days ago as we already knew the items, part numbers and prices of what we wanted.

Ah well, all is good in the end :)

Thanks again, to everyone who's offered help.

5D2 with grip and RRS L plate, 50D without grip and RRS L Plate.
Ordered RRS plates for the 70-200 and 100-400. I'll probably get a kirk plate for my 30D as they are compatible.

The head was the most difficult choice, RRS, Markins, Acratech, Arca Swiss etc... I think RRS is the most popular choice. I decided on the Gitzo 5541LS tripod, looking for something sturdier than my Manfrotto 055CXPRO4. Can't wait to get that.
This is a useful plate/head compatibility chart:

I forgot to mention that. :runaway: It was only through checking emails that I realised the order hadn't gone through the first time. Second time lucky. :)

Hope you get your really right stuff soon! :D

Thank you, and for that link too

I have a lot of travelling, by plane coming up, and will need a small and very sturdy tripod. I hope I just didn't go a bit overboard, in terms of size and weight, with the ballhead, but I figured better be safe than sorry !

No problem accessing their site from Dubai.

Are you sure they will ship to the Middle East, some companies won't.

Accessing their site has been resolved now . We've since had trouble with placing an order online, so we just made a phone call to them and all got sorted :).

Shipping to Middle East; not sure if they do or not; but I have a USA address to where they'll ship my stuff. From there, it will be forwarded off to me in Saudi (takes 3~5 days at most). I am sure all of the big courier names offer this kind of service in Dubai too; it's not unique to Saudi.

Yes, no problem couriering (is that a word?) stuff to Dubai, just that some retailers won't send certain things to certain countries, e.g., Amazon won't send electronics, cameras, etc, to Middle East countries. Anyway not a problem for you.

If you set-up an account with one of the couriers, they'll give you a mailing address in your country of choice (well, a list of a few countries from which you can choose two or three). This way, you can have your mail sent to your foreign mail.

The items I've just bought in the US will be shipped to my couriers' USA address; my couriers will then forward the items to me in Saudi, and it is very expedient. The only catch is that there is a list of prohibited items, which is common to most countries, but may also be dependent on the country you're in (e.g. batteries are a :nono:, but then so is alcohol, medicine, etc.).
