Hi, Today i bought a Nikon D3000 my first DSLR. Before this I have been using a Samsung compact for the past year. Many years before that I owned two SLRs both Olympuss an OM2spot and an old OM10.
My queries around the Nikon are this....Having only just entered the DSLR arena, I am somewhat confused as to the aperture settings for the lens. Its the kit Nikkor 18-55mm lens I am talking about and there is only one ring on it which seems to be a zoom ring. It zooms fine from 18mm to 55mm, great, but how do i select my own aperture in the cameras manual mode? Am i missing some vital information? Does the aperture not need selecting anymore? I am so used to shooting mainly in manual mode on all the cameras I have owned that I was a bit saddened to not be able to find an aperture adjustment ring or button.
Also, in manual mode, there appears to be 3 flash modes available, auto, red eye and rear flash. I know there is a flash off mode but as far as i can see it doesnt let you select your own shutter speeds in that mode?
I have read the manual and have been experimenting with it, with some very nice results so far but if anyone can explain about the two things I have mentioned I would be most grateful as I am sure I am still stuck in the old SLR mode in my brain and just need a gentle push into DSLR mode :bonk:
