Can the 5dmkII shoot at 30fps?

Hi all,

I just updated my firmware from version 1 to 2.0.8, and I can shoot at 25fps or 24fps. I was wondering if it could shoot at 30fps previous to me changing the firmware?

You still can - switch to NTSC and then your options become 30fps and 24fps. Why would you want 30fps as it isn't compatible with UK standards? If you want higher fps, I'd suggest shooting in 720p50.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but does the 5d2 shoots 720p videos? I thought it can only go for the 1080p?

If I'm not wrong it can only do 1080p. I use to own one of these babies but I sold it off for NIKON. And I didn't explore the movie mode that much. But pls correct me if I'm wrong.
 
Yep, you're right. 1080p only (or 640x480). My mistake - sorry. The 30fps is correct though - you have to be in NTSC mode to see it...
 
Yeah sorry, I found this out a while ago, it's just PAL and NTSC. Can't do 50 at 720?!.
640x480 is the other resolution.

PAL and NTSC really are misnomers... PAL and NTSC are standard definition formats and are in fact analog(ue) as they refer to the way the colour signal is broadcast. People just use "PAL" to mean 25fps and "NTSC" to mean 30fps (actually 29.97fps, but that's another story). That's OK unless you live in Brazil which uses PAL-M which is a 30fps system that is frame rate compatible with the USA.
