That's for lenses, not body's.

OP, you go by the first couple digits of the serial number. The higher the number, the later the body.

As above, first month a body is produced serial will start 01 and tick up 1 digit each month so if you have a body with a serial number 12 it will have been made 12 months into production of that body.

With 1D Bodies there is also a date code in the battery compartment, printed in ink on the bottom wall of the battery bay (You will need to shine a torch in to see it), and that is the same format as the Lens Age Dating Chart. I thnk that ended on the 1D MKIII not seen any on the MKIVs

Thanks for the replies chaps, will look in the battery bay when I get home and have a torch.

The serial number starts 5700 but I assume it wasn't made 57 months into production?

Both my MkIV's have a date in the battery compartment so it was still being used in 2010.

Just checked, 04/10 for my 1d mkIII.

Happy with that as I thought it was older

I'd have guessed so too as the records show that they finished making the MkIII in late 2009. Perhaps they're dated based on inspection and despatch and not the build date.
