is this true? was reading DIGITAL SLR mag and he said something along the lines off "using the wrong settings wont break your camera YET".

its got me slightly worried has im still learing settings etc with my camera and dont want todo it damage if possible.

so can anyone shed any light on this or will i be all good?

thanks sim

EDIT is there a shutter life to cameras too?:)

I don't think you'd do any harm to the hardward by using the wrong settings to be honest. You may find it refuses to take the photo, or the end result is useless, but I don't think you could actually 'break' the camera.

Most bodies will have a lifespan in terms of shutter life (or 'actuations'), and the manufacturers generally specify their guesstimate in the spec of the camera. Depending on where you read, the average for the 350D appears to be around the 50,000 mark.

Normal use of your camera will cause no damage. I went to the extreme by taking a flash shot head on at F4, no probs. the only danger is incorrect flashgun with to high a trigger voltage. Do not drop it,they don`t bounce.

I can't think of much you could possibly do to a dslr that could break it. It's all a combination of shutter speed and aperture after all. Get it wrong and your pics come out crap but break the camera?

You can fry electronics by putting on a flash with too high a voltage, you can allow them to get wet and corrode but that you could break it with the wrong settings...............nope, can't think of one.

Now the shutter life one I can help a bit. yes they do have "indicated" life expectancies, the 350D is rated to 50,000. That is not any kind of guarantee, just an "indication"

there is a shutter life for them but they are playing safe with them and they have been known to last alot longer.
as for braking your camera with the wrong settings i think thats is silly that would just be ware and tare and the likes

thanks all got another 45,000 pictures to go:D

if anyone has that mag have a read off it and see if ive got it wrong or i can put up whats was written.

it was in the begginers (sp) section and if its incorrect its very poor has without this site id belive it and be concerned about messing etc with my camera:thinking::nono:

cheers sim

Don't point your camera directly at the sun is one that I believe isn't good for it! lol

my mistake i read it wrong now ive had my coffee fix i can see clearly so this thread can be closed... deleted anything to hide the shame:coat::amstupid:

thanks sim

I took some pictures of a guy at work welding (great for sparks etc) and I made sure that the arc was not directly in view just in case. Didn't want to chance it. Got some good pics and camera still going strong.

Just remember there are no stupid questions if it is something you do not know the answer to. If there had been a setting that would "break" the camera you would have learned about it

thanks:)

Or 10 mins for some round here (mentioning no names! lol)
