can you convert a sigma lens from nikon to canon fit

and if so will the af work correctly
I have found they do an adapter ring but at best these seem to just trick the af to lock on
can they be converted properly, cheaply and easily to function fully on a crop canon
the reason I ask is the sigma I'm after is much cheaper s/h for a nikon than a canon
 
Id just get the right fit, maybe cheaper to get the nikon fit, but then you need to buy a converter :thinking: dont make sense

also you can probably find the lens cheap in canon fit also if you look hard enough - which lens is it that you are after ?
 
there is quite a difference in price between s/h nikon sigma and canon fit sigma
the adaptor rings are a no as far as I can see
 
is there really ? - Like i said say what lens you are interested in, and how much the nikon fit is , and chances are someone will find a canon fit in the same price range.

(Course another option would be to swap you cameras to nikon if its that important)
 
I was looking for the bigma not a huge amount available s/h but the nikon fit is alot cheaper s/h
if I am going to have to pay 500ish for a non os and 1200 for a new os i think i might as well buy a canon 100-400L and bin the bigma idea at those prices
 
That sounds about right for the canon fit, but ive not seen nikon fits that much cheaper - you have to be careful with comparing s/h to make sure its like for like (e.g is the nikon fiot you are looking at cheaper because its worn)

incidentally Ive used both and IMO the sigma 50-500 OS is better than the canon 100-400 IS (not least for the extra 100mm reachyou can also find good examples of the 120-300 f2.8 (non OS) for reasonable money, )- however if you can't run to that kind of cash there's also the cheaper 150-500 OS to consider

very interesting
have done quite a bit of research on the lenses and a few owners have commented that the 50 -500 isn't really 500mm more like 460
on one particular site some owners had done back to back tests on the same body and same subject using the 50 -500 bigma and the canon 100-400 and there was very little in it with both lenses at full tele photo image size wise
the iQ of the canon pic was better
It's justifying the cost of the lenses to myself not the actual money itself
I just fancy the flexibility of the bigma
I already have a selection of canon lenses and being honest I donlt really actually need any more I just fancy one you know how it is :lol:
 
The canon is a hair sharper and lighter than the sigma (and 1/3stop faster at the long end), the sigma has more flexibility and OS about a stop more effective.
The canon has the push/pull zoom which some people hate and some people love.

Personally I really like my 100-400, it can deliver very sharp images. But the 50-500OS is also superb for slightly different reasons.

P.S.
I wouldn't expect to see a used 50-500 non-OS going for much less than £500 in any mount in decent condition.
 
can't find the 50-500 OS s/h and regarding 500 quid the non os is fetching that much s/h on the bay
waiting for my 60 days of registration on this site to come along so I can visit the classifieds
best price new I have found on the OS model is digital rev at 960

umm - that lens is sigma fit , not canon fit - ie it only fits sigma dslrs

Wex arent showing a non OS model 50-500 in canon fit
